#Huddle - Amy Lasu, Captain of South Sudan women’s football team
“Once you’re married, that’s just the end of your football career”. That really hit home for me, as I was chatting to Amy.
Amy’s football journey began when she was 7 years old. She developed her skills playing with boys in the neighbourhood where she grew up in Kenya.
Now she’s the captain of South Sudan’s national women’s team, and the Ambassador of Women’s Football for South Sudan’s Football Association.
In her Ambassador role, she told me she wanted to “inspire girls who have dreams they want to achieve”.
But some communities don’t allow women to play football, “because they believe that women should still be in the house, doing chores, taking care of the family”. So #womeninsport takes on a different meaning…
