In March 1945 US forces of the 3rd Armored Division advanced into the ruins of the German city of Cologne. Over two days of bitter fighting they eventually pushed the defenders back across the Rhine.

Standing in their way were the last few tanks of the German Army in the region. This is the story of how one M26 Pershing tank came up against a formidable Panther outside the iconic Cathedral, with the duel being caught on camera in one of the most iconic scenes of WW2.

Every night, as most of us head home, janitors across America, many of them women, begin their night shift. They are often alone or isolated in empty buildings — and vulnerable to sexual violence. (Aired 2018)

Following up on the award-winning collaboration that produced “Rape in the Fields/Violación de un Sueño” in 2013, FRONTLINE, Univision, the Investigative Reporting Program (IRP) at UC Berkeley, Reveal from The Center for Investigative Reporting (CIR) and KQED teamed up to uncover the sexual abuse of immigrant women, often undocumented, who clean the malls where we shop, the banks where we do business and the offices where we work. Drawing on interviews with the women themselves, an attorney for the federal agency that enforces sexual harassment laws in the workplace and a watchdog group that monitors workplace conditions for janitors, the investigation sheds light on an underreported problem — and reveals how employers have fallen short in dealing with it.

This video is made to educate people about the false narratives that known personalities sometimes make.
We all knew the the one side of the story of Mother Teresa, which is that she was the Mother Of the poor, Saint of the gutters.
However, very few people knew her other side of the story, and this video just puts light on that other side of the story.

Afghanistan has one of the world’s highest drug addiction rates. According to the Taliban, there are an estimated four million drug addicts across the country.

Babrak, a former mujahideen fighter, used to be one of them. Now, he is committed to supporting addicts to detox in one of the capital’s under-resourced drug rehabilitation hospitals.

Since the Taliban took power in 2021, international aid has been withdrawn and public services are on the brink of collapse. Babrak and a handful of medical staff struggle to offer a line of hope as the Taliban's anti-drug policies are put into action.

Nearly half a million people in America’s prisons and jails were dealing with mental illness in 2005. FRONTLINE examined mental health in the prison system. (Aired 2005)

This journalism is made possible by viewers like you. Support your local PBS station here: https://www.pbs.org/donate

When “The New Asylums” was originally released, 16 percent of America’s prison population could be classified as having a severe mental illness such as schizophrenia, major depression or bipolar disorder, according to National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. The numbers were much higher when taking into consideration other types of mental illnesses and disorders.

As sheriffs and prison wardens became the unexpected and ill-equipped gatekeepers of this burgeoning population, they raised a troubling issue: were jails and prisons turning into America’s new mental hospitals?

With unprecedented access to prison therapy sessions, mental health treatment meetings, crisis wards, and prison disciplinary tribunals, FRONTLINE went inside Ohio’s state prison system to present a searing exploration of the complex topic of mental health behind bars and a moving portrait of the individuals at the center of this issue.

The Golden Eagle - Master of the Sky | Wildlife Documentary

Watch 'Germany's Wild Birds' here: https://youtu.be/RpgWh3udd-A

When the golden eagle watches for prey while gliding over its hunting ground, hardly flapping its wings, snow and black grouse, groundhogs, hares and other animals had better watch out. Even the quick kestrel can't escape when the golden eagle has it in its sights. The fox and the common raven may be more intelligent than the golden eagle, but if they aren't careful they might also end up as a meal for the young eagles in the eyrie. The golden eagle is an extremely crafty hunter: optimally exploiting all cover, it glides close to the ground over knolls and low hills along hillsides and attempts to surprise its prey from a short distance. When it spies prey, it swoops down onto it in a nosedive. The eagle has already killed the surprised prey before it even realises what is happening to it.

This documentary gives an intimate portrait of this large bird of prey and tracks the birth and coming of age of two Golden Eagle chicks in the High Tatra Mountains, from the hatching of the eggs, until the moment when the young birds leave the nest. Tragic and funny moments make this movie an entertaining trip into the treetops of the European forests.

World’s Most Dangerous Roads | Bangladesh - The Nawabpur Road in Dhaka (2010)

World’s Most Dangerous Roads | India - Leh-Manali Highway: https://youtu.be/NGEndcJQhcQ

In Bangladesh, the land with the highest density of population in the world (and the highest amount of corruption), the daily struggle to survive is fought everywhere, including the streets. Nowhere do people drive as brutally and recklessly as here. In Bangladesh you drive on the road like others drive with a bumper car: if you need space, you simply ram the car driving next to you. The police only came if there are fatalities. The biggest bottleneck in the transport system is the historical old town of Dhaka. Old Dhaka is a universe of its own, a world of bazaars in which every trade has its own quarter: there are streets of jewelers, sweets makers and fashionable tailors, and the vegetable wholesalers have their warehouses down at the port. The deliveries take place mostly on the river, the Buriganga River, a stinking cesspool. But the sold goods usually leave by land, and the customers also come by the land route – the Nawabpur Road. They generally come in buses or by rickshaw, where too many people are crammed into too little space. The traffic in Dhaka is everyday, normal madness. The film accompanies a rickshaw, a bus and a truck on their dangerous way through the streets of Dhaka and shows how it is possible to survive in what seems to be an incontrollable chaos.

Behind Bars Season 2 - Episode 2: South Cotabato Jail, Philippines | Prison Documentary

Banged Up: My Story - Toughest Stories from Behind Bars: https://youtu.be/m2VF1ATnrdY

Note: This is a reupload. Due to the episode's subject matter we had to make some adjustments to make the video available on YouTube.

Behind Bars: South Cotabato Jail. One of the most overcrowded prisons in the world. Murderers, rapists, and drug dealers. The guilty and the innocent. All are behind bars together. In a jail designed for 600 prisoners, more than 2000 inmates are crammed into cells the size of shoe boxes. The prison is bursting at the seems, and there is no hope of improvement. For the inmates have not even been convicted. Thanks to President Duterte’s war on drugs, the Filipino justice system is totally overwhelmed. Instead of only putting those convicted behind bars, thousands of accused individuals are forced to await a verdict together in inhuman conditions: cramped space, tropical heat, insufficient water, and, worst of all, a jail that is ruled by the inmates. The guards can’t control the mass of prisoners. As a result, the jail is dominated by hierarchies and power relations.

Ronniel Dumagit doesn’t yet know what awaits him. He’s a newbie. It’s his first time in jail. But faster than he’d like he’ll learn how the prison works, what the hierarchy looks like, and how he has to behave in order to survive.
One prisoner decides what status and privileges each of the other inmates have inside the prison. They call him El Presidente: Glecerio de Pedro and his henchmen rule the prison. The guards are totally outnumbered. They use surprise inspections to try to increase their authority, but they can’t change the situation. Nor can they do anything about the daily struggle for survival, for space, for air.

No-Go Zones - World’s Toughest Places - Tepito, Mexico

Red Zones: Philippines - The Dark Side of the Sea: https://youtu.be/lAlh_oPOPfc

“Tepito” in Mexico City – arguably the most dangerous black market in the world. At first glance, the no-go zone looks like any other market – yet the main thing you’ll find lurking down the alleyways behind it is death. It’s ruled by the “La Union” gang. The Tepito cartel deals in drugs, weapons and assassinations – anything that you can use money to buy.
The gang plays cat and mouse with the special units. And anyone caught in the crossfire is risking their life. Residents also call the area “Barrio Bravo” – the wild neighborhood.
Estimates suggest that around eight kilos of cocaine and half a ton of marijuana are sold in the alleyways of the no-go zone of Tepito every weekend. It is a place where people pay up to fourteen thousand euros to hitmen for a single yet fatal bullet. A silent knife attack. Or a blast from a shotgun.
The normal police force is barely able to keep the situation under control. According to statistics, Mexico City alone is short of over ten thousand officers. So, in their fight to stop the gangs, the authorities rely primarily on a special unit. Consisting of four hundred men in total, the troop is ready for action around the clock. And the gang members are prepared to kill anybody who might ruin their business.
Tepito – a place that doesn’t play by society’s rules. Where the powerful “La Union” gang rules. And people die on a daily basis. It’s a daunting, deadly no-go zone!

Two groups of fishermen on opposite sides of the St Croix River began arguing across the water. For hours, insults and curse words were exchanged.

As the sun went down tempers began to flare.

The two groups of men would find themselves on the same side of the river, squaring off. After all was said and done one fisherman, a young father to five children, would not leave the park alive.

Peace is often fleeting in the natural world, however, and shortly after the deer begin their morning drink, they find themselves bolting back into the undergrowth to safety. A flock of birds has disturbed them from their gathering, sent soaring into the warm morning air by something huge moving through the undergrowth. Like something from a hollywood film, the bushes across the stream rattle and rustle, progressively faster, until a tall black shadow can be seen emerging from the tangle of bamboo and leaves. It's a primate - a colossal, reddish coloured, muscular, powerful primate. As its face steadily unsheaths itself from the greenery, it looks almost human - a kind, slow expression spreads across its huge cheeks as it too, pauses to check for tigers.

With none in sight, the primate - Gigantopithecus, a huge, extinct ape - can descend to the stream to drink. As a lone, adult male, this is his territory, and he will spend the morning coursing it for food and water. Although the terrified hoofed mammals are long gone, they needn't have worried - Gigantopithecus is a strict vegetarian, and would have at best just ushered them along so he could have drank in peace. Instead, this giant ape stands tall and proud in his forest home - he is one of the most remarkable animals living in these forests, and there is little that can do him harm.

Pushing through a lofty bamboo thicket, he soon finds himself in a densely surrounded forest clearing, surrounded by others of his kind - his family. Several females, a few yound males and some youngsters, born just last year, are at his command. As the leader of his troop, he will defend them from rival males and predators fiercely, siring as many of his family's children as he can within the constraints of his reign. He, and his kind, are the largest primates ever to live.

The forests of Gabon are some of the densest and most mysterious in the world. Living there is almost impossible due to all the wild animals, snakes and insects hiding behind every leaf. But there are a few adventurous souls who risk it all in this green hell every day. They are the drivers of enormous logging trucks that can carry up to 40 tons of wood at a time.

It is on these giant logs that the entire country’s fortunes depend. The drivers race across the country in these huge machines to take the exotic wood from the Forest of Bees logging sites to Gentil port; it is a 350km feat of endurance and skill that is not for the faint hearted.

Despite the Taliban’s promises of peace and stability, Afghanistan is on its knees. When the militant Islamists took Kabul a year ago, life changed dramatically, especially for women.

Our reporters travel to Afghanistan to find out what life is like under Taliban rule. In a small village in the rural province of Maidan Wardak, they meet Dr. Roshanak. She used to be a member of parliament and always worked to maintain cordial relations with the Taliban.

In the capital Kabul, our reporters spend time with Aisha, who used to work for a UN project and dreamed of a career in politics. Now she feels “like a prisoner”.

They also meet the desperate potters of Istalif, whose business crumbles under the worsening economic crisis. And they encounter members of the Taliban who blame the West for hunger and poverty.

Their return to power is the result of America’s longest war, which started barely a month after the September 11 attacks in 2001.
