A new lecture, film premiere and historic recordings presentation at The African American Museum and Library at Oakland by Bill Doggett, Exhibitions Curator, lecturer and historian. This presentation took place June 16, 2012.

The lecture begins with a focus on The Transatlantic Slave Trade, Slavery in The United States and focuses in on The Underground Railroad and the special coded role of Negro Spirituals in the journey of enslaved Africans to freedom. The lecture-academically speaking-- has much more notable and engaging material than what is shared here.

This lecture was presented as part of The African American Museum and Library at Oakland's continuing focus on The 150th Anniversary of The American Civil War and the intertwined dramas of Slavery in The United States and African American history, then and now.

The lecture was a full afternoon presentation distinguished by the world premiere of a very special film to accompany the lecture. Additionally, Doggett showcased a number of rare early sound recordings from his large Early Sound archive of Negro Spirituality and Folk Songs.
This you tube piece is a PROMO REEL: a small sample of a much larger presentation that is focused as a full afternoon or full evening event. To contact and book Bill Doggett for your Music and Lecture Series: email: bdoggett55@gmail.com
