The government has suspended bank statement requirement for foreign travellers seeking electronic travel authorisation into the country. The suspension has been prompted by uproar over the requirement.
Immigration Principal Secretary Julius Bitok says the country has to date, received 9787 applications of which 4046 have been processed. The PS says the electronic travel authorisation is being processed within 72 hours compared to 14 days for visa processing. To ensure fairness and equality all travellers pay a fee of 30 dollars, an equivalent 4500 shillings for authorization. Travellers from East African states are however exempted from the payment.
