An drilling rig is towed around the world by a single tug.

A brand-new drilling rig, worth 500 million dollar, has to go from South Korea to Europe. The problem: It is too gigantic for a heavy transport vessel. The solution: it’s being towed. By one single tug. It’s a true Mega Transport, halfway around the globe – all that in just 90 days.

The Mega Transport starts in Ulsan, South Korea. West Bollsta was built here for 6 years – and is now ready to get to its operation site. But how should this beast be delivered? It’s 123 meters long and 76 meters wide. Its maximum drilling depth: incredible 12 kilometers! Way to bulky to be transported in a common way. Surprisingly, a rather small kind of boat is best for the job: the ALP Striker – one of the strongest ocean tugs in the world.

The ALP Striker will pull the drilling rig across the oceans on arm-thick steel cables. They are so heavy that only the ship's own crane can move them. Connecting tug and rig alone takes a whole day.
Once the drilling rig is towed to the tug, they’re embarking on a journey never before seen: around the cape of good hope. Navigation, pirates, wind and waves – there are many unpredictable challenges along the way. Once they have managed them all, the destination is in sight: the Canary islands.

Sex work is a way of life for thousands of women in marginalized communities in certain parts of rural India. For many, it is the only way to make money - also due to the Indian caste system and centuries-old prejudices which make it difficult for the families to escape poverty. But winds of change are blowing.

In certain Indian villages, sex work is, in a sense, inherited. Mothers and grandmothers have already worked in the same trade. In the past, they mostly belonged to ethnic groups that worked mainly as performers. The British colonial power criminalized them, and to this day it is especially difficult for the men of these ethnic groups to find regular jobs. Therefore, the female members of the family are often the breadwinners. They are the ones who take out loans, build houses, make important decisions, which is otherwise rare in India. Our reporters Akanksha Saxena and Neerat Kaur looked around the villages - and found signs of hope: The young generation is trying to leave this sad tradition behind and fight for better education and rights.

Nomads in Mongolia have always had an intimate relationship with wolves, and travelled with the wild canines. But as the Mongolian economy has boomed drastically, a dilemma is imposed upon the nomads; maintain their relationships with nature, or cave in to the overwhelming force of the economy.

Faced with the conundrum is a shepherd Purevjav. Wolves have been killing his livestock to feed themselves, and Purevjav is well aware of the value the wolves’ pelts hold if exported. To sustain his family, Purevjav is pressed to hunt the pack of wolves he considers scared.

Squids & Octopuses - Mysterious Hunters of the Deep Sea | Ocean Documentary

Octopuses and squids are anything but cuddly pets. They have neither legs nor fins. Instead, they have snakelike arms, covered in suction caps - eight or ten, dangerous tentacles, which grow out of their heads. To add to their bizarre appearance, they are soft flabby, void of vertebrae or bones. When in danger, they emit foul-smelling ink. They originate from a time before humans walked the earth; from the primeval period, before fish populated the oceans. It is therefore hardly surprising, that these cephalopods seem so strange and disconcerting to us.

Our film trip takes us to the Sea of Cortez, to the Socorro Islands, where fish are in abundance. It is here that we want to find the legendary Humboldt squid, to capture its nocturnal hunt for food on camera. Mantas, white-tip reef sharks, sea lions and dolphins accompany us. Before our late night rendezvous with the squids, we get some close ups of the sophisticated hunting techniques of swordfish, or Merlin.
On Vancouver Island, we accompany Karen Palmer and David Pickles, experts on giant octopi, on their search for the eight-armed cephalo-pods. We are also on hand, when they greeted by their "favourites", witnesses to a unique communication between man and animal.

What Killed the King of Pop?: The Death of Michael Jackson (Mystery Documentary) | Real Stories

Killing Michael Jackson is a 2019 documentary film directed and produced by ZigZag, focusing on the death of singer Michael Jackson. The documentary features Orlando Martinez, Dan Myers and Scott Smith – three detectives who were involved in the initial investigation of Jackson's death.

On June 25, 2009, American singer Michael Jackson died of acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication at his home on North Carolwood Drive in the Holmby Hills. His personal physician, Conrad Murray, said he found Jackson in his room, not breathing and with a weak pulse, and administered CPR on Jackson to no avail.

On August 28, 2009, the Los Angeles County Coroner ruled that Jackson's death was a homicide. Shortly before his death, Jackson had reportedly been administered propofol and two anti-anxiety benzodiazepines, lorazepam, and midazolam, in his home. Law enforcement officials charged Murray with involuntary manslaughter on November 7, 2011, and served two years of his four-year prison sentence, early release per good behavior.

The plane was originally intended to take the Soviet Buran space shuttle back from its landing site to the Baikonur spaceport in Kazakhstan. After the end of the space program, Antonov Airlines converted the An-225 into a cargo plane. The Korean War began on June 25, 1950, when some 75,000 soldiers from the North Korean People’s Army poured across the 38th parallel, the boundary between the Soviet-backed Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to the north and the pro-Western Republic of Korea to the south. This invasion was the first military action of the Cold War. By July, American troops had entered the war on South Korea’s behalf. As far as American officials were concerned, it was a war against the forces of international communism itself. After some early back-and-forth across the 38th parallel, the fighting stalled and casualties mounted with nothing to show for them. Meanwhile, American officials worked anxiously to fashion some sort of armistice with the North Koreans. The alternative, they feared, would be a wider war with Russia and China–or even, as some warned, World War III. Finally, in July 1953, the Korean War came to an end. In all, some 5 million soldiers and civilians lost their lives in what many in the U.S. refer to as “the Forgotten War” for the lack of attention it received compared to more well-known conflicts like World War I and II and the Vietnam War. The Korean peninsula is still divided today.

Thomas Lynch is a writer and a poet. He's also a funeral director in a small town in central Michigan where he and his family have cared for the dead -- and the living -- for three generations. Moving and powerful, the 2007 documentary “The Undertaking” chronicles the intimate stories of families confronting loss, and the role of funeral rituals in helping them come to terms with their loved ones’ deaths.

"Funerals are the way we close the gap between the death that happens and the death that matters," Lynch says in the documentary. "A good funeral gets the dead where they need to go and the living where they need to be."

Does rose quartz combat stress? In the beauty industry, gemstones have been an integral part of the product range for years. Various companies tout their rose quartz products‘ "natural" healing powers, claiming they will help customers recuperate from their stressful everyday lives and reconnect with nature. But while people in Europe turn to these stones for beauty and healing, the gemstones bring anything but wellbeing for the workers across the globe who are mining them.

The North America was once an uninhabited wilderness where huge herds of big animals roamed. It was only about 15 thousand years ago when the Colombian mamooths, bisons, sabretooth cats and giant ground sloths lived here. After that, the climate change and human hunters caused the extinction of most of the big mammals. Only a few species survived in the harsh deserts of Southwestern USA and Northern Mexico until recent days. Today the deserts are not shaking under the hoofs of thousands of herbivores, but some animals which lived in that age are still present here. It is estimated that around 25 million years ago one particular group of vipers started to thrive in North America and they still dominate this continent. The rattlesnakes. After millions of years of evolution they attained body structures which allowed them to become the most successful venomous snakes in this part of the world.

With this spring marking the 20-year anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, “Once Upon a Time in Iraq: Fallujah” tells the story of the battle to retake the key city of Fallujah from a violent insurgency that was taking root across Iraq after the U.S. ousted Saddam Hussein.

In this documentary from filmmaker James Bluemel (“Once Upon a Time in Iraq,” “Exodus”), U.S. Marines, journalists and ordinary Iraqis share their experiences of what would become the bloodiest battle of the Iraq War, and how its consequences have reverberated for two decades.
