In 1960, Chinese-American Hollywood star Anna May Wong appeared in the last film of a long Hollywood career–far too much of it spent battling discrimination and roles that typecast Asian American actors in a negative light. Today, a new generation of media stars, such as tennis icon Naomi Osaka, is challenging those stereotypes and paving the way for change. Join MTV News correspondent Yoonj Kim and National Museum of American History Curator Theodore S. Gonzalves as they trace depictions of Asian Americans in media from Old Hollywood to now.

Arsonists have carried out attacks on France's high-speed train network causing major travel disruption ahead of the Paris Olympics opening ceremony.

With the games set to get under way amid an unprecedented peacetime security operation, the state-owned railway operator SNCF said fires had been set at installations along the lines connecting the capital with cities such as Lille in the north, Bordeaux in west and Strasbourg in the east.

It said timetables would be severely impacted over the weekend and has urged all travellers to postpone their journeys. Eurostar has also said services between London and Paris were being diverted, with several trains cancelled and journey times increased by 90 minutes.

"WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris has secured the support of enough Democratic delegates to become her party’s nominee against Republican Donald Trump, according to an Associated Press survey, as top Democrats rallied to her in the aftermath of President Joe Biden’s decision to drop his bid for reelection.

The quick coalescing behind Harris marked an attempt by the party to put weeks of internecine drama over Biden’s political future behind them and to unify behind the task of defeating Trump with just over 100 days until Election Day. Prominent Democratic elected officials, party leaders and political organizations quickly lined up behind Harris in the day after Biden’s exit from the race and her campaign set a new 24-hour record for presidential donations on Monday."

Former Victorian Liberal Party president Michael Kroger says US President Joe Biden looks “so feeble”.

“People have stopped listening to him – no one’s listening to Biden anymore,” he told Sky News Australia.

“Biden looks so feeble. He looks like yesterday’s man.

“He does look as if he’s got early stage of dementia, he makes that many blunders, he’s an embarrassment on the world stage.”

Commentator Alex Stein has blasted US media and in particular CNN over its initial reporting following an assassination attempt on former US president Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania.

“When you saw CNN report on this they reported on it as Trump falling down after hearing loud noises,” Mr Stein said.

“The media here in America is the biggest fraud of any corporation of anybody that exists because they will literally look us in the face and lie and try to misconstrue what actually happened.

“It’s very sad I just can’t believe that the media would say that Trump fell down.”
