In November 2020, Sam Sally, also known as Sam Elhassani, was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison for financing terrorism — making her the first American woman brought back from Syria or Iraq and convicted on ISIS-related terrorism charges.

How did this American mother go from a comfortable life in Indiana to the heart of ISIS’s self-declared caliphate in Syria, with her husband a sniper for the terror group and her 10-year-old son forced to threaten President Donald Trump in an ISIS propaganda video shown around the world?

FRONTLINE tells the inside story in “Return From ISIS,” a documentary in association with the BBC that has been nearly four years in the making.

No-Go Zones - World’s Toughest Places - Seven Mile Road in Detroit, USA

Red Zones: Philippines - The Dark Side of the Sea: https://youtu.be/lAlh_oPOPfc

For years, Detroit has been considered one of the most dangerous cities in the USA – and especially infamous is Seven Mile Road. This area is so tough that even the police only dare tread during the day. Ruled by the Seven Mile Bloods. One of the most notorious gangs in the city. Drug dealers, hustlers, killers and thieves – prepared to do whatever it takes to defend their territory. For over ten years gang leader Money controls the drug trade with an iron fist. A bloody territorial war keeps the gang in turmoil. To keep their rivals in check, boss Money needs a steady flow of new weapons. Only with the requisite firepower can they continue to dominate their territory and the other gangs – because the touch-paper might light at any moment. The violent crime rate in Detroit is five times higher than the rest of the country. In two thousand eighteen, over thirteen thousand crimes were reported, many more occurred. Seven Mile in particular is the front line for the bloody territorial battles that brutally define this no-go zone. For the police, every assignment is a risk, which is why bounty hunters are often used to go after criminals. A special unit of bounty hunters prepares for their next assignment on the outskirts of downtown. Tommy Depung leads the unit. So far, he’s arrested over twenty-five hundred criminals. Together with his team, they´re following a hot tip about a wanted drug and weapons dealer, and it’s taking them straight into the no-go zone…

Animal Armory - Episode 5: Spits & Stings | Animal Documentary

Watch 'Animal Armory - Episode 6' here: https://youtu.be/KxT2pGKsig8

For many species in the animal kingdom, spitting and stinging is a vital tool for self-defense and in the pursuit of prey. In Arctic waters, the walrus depends on its ability to spit in order to feed. The cobra projects its venomous saliva to blind its predators. Spitting provides the jawfish with a home – and a means to defend it. Putting their lives on the line, bees will use stings to attack any threat to their colony. Jellyfish trawl their stingers through the world’s oceans to subdue prey and ward off predators. The echidna is constantly protected by their densely packed, needle-like armor of spines. The Stingray’s powerful, barbed tail and potent venom is the stuff of legends, and the carnivorous centipede is granted access to a wide range of prey thanks to its paralyzing sting. Animal Armory takes a closer look at these mighty instruments of destruction and the animals that wield them with absolute precision.

Eagles: The Kings of the Sky | Free Wildlife Documentary

Watch: "The Golden Eagle: King of the Mountains" here: https://youtu.be/hjT4wMkjfwM

Whether in Alaska or in the Dolomites, eagles are generally seen as Kings of the skies. This film devotes itself on the one hand to the bald eagle, the heraldic bird of the United States, and on the other, the Golden Eagle, Europe's largest predatory bird. Many bald eagles live in the Chilkoot State Park in Alaska's south. In fact, more than 400 pairs reside there for the entire year. With a wingspan of some 2.5 metres, they are amongst the largest of their species. The offspring have to leave the eyrie by September at the latest, as then, winter sets in.

On clear, starry nights, one can experience the Northern Lights. There are certain places where especially many eagles group. 3000 to 4500 of them. Because, beneath the Chilkat ice blanket, chum salmon feel at home. The reason for this is the volcanic activity of the surrounding areas. Hot sources feed the different tributaries of the Chilkat. It is the fourth and final salmon migration of the year - nowhere else does this take place so late in the year.

This combination of ice-free water and spawning fish facilitates the survival of many young eagles through their first winter. In the Dolomites, we observe a Golden Eagle couple and their offspring. The strategy of hunter and hunted is impressively documented. For the very first time we experience a groundhog's fight for survival, attempting to flee the eagles' eyrie at a height of 2000 meters, despite the fact this means confrontation with the eagle's offspring. Golden Eagles have virtually conquered the entire northern hemisphere. But the future hunting grounds of the young eagles belongs to the most beautiful: the Dolomites - as majestic as the Kings of the skies.

Every morning, the three sisters Julia, Yulissa and Kenya climb into their dugout in order to row to school. They live on the east coast of Nicaragua, one of the world’s poorest countries, and the youngest of them has just turned five; the oldest is nine. They row across the Rio Escondido. Not only is it one of the largest rivers in the country, it is simultaneously one of the most dangerous routes to school. While they have to watch out for snakes lurking in the trees over the river, the three sisters also struggle against the current and must ensure the dugout does not fill up with water - because it has multiples holes and could sink at any minute.

Other classmates do not necessarily have it easier, because they live far from the river, and their journey to school takes them through the deep jungle. One of these classmates is 11-year-old Greyven. His daily trip takes him through the so-called ‘snake field’, in which coral snakes and the infamous boa constrictor reside. On the way to school, the rain drives the snakes from the empty coconuts on the ground; on the way back the afternoon heat, which is over 35 degrees, means that they are lively and belligerent.

The daily journey – ashore and to water – to San Mariano’s small village school is an adventure almost unimaginable to us. Every time they undertake this trip, the children expose themselves to life-threatening dangers, all for the chance to have a better future.

World’s Most Dangerous Roads | India - Leh-Manali Highway (2010)

Deadliest Roads - India: https://youtu.be/z72RlyF6API

It is a road of mountain passes and India’s access to the roof of the world – the Himalayas. This 475-kilometre long route at the northernmost tip of the Indian subcontinent connects the cities of Manali and Leh at the heart of the Ladakh region. The term “highway” applies quite literally, since the route traverses five of the highest drivable mountain passes in the world – among these the Lohtang La at 3,978 metres above sea level, the Lachulung La at 5,059 metres and the Tanglang La at 5,325 metres. Crossing these passes is a challenge for both vehicle and man. The mountain peaks, still snow-capped even in the depths of summer, wide variety of vegetation and the fantastic and craggy landscape turn any journey into a captivating adventure.

Stories from the Hidden Worlds - Manila, Philippines

Nigeria's Slum-on-Water - Makoko: https://youtu.be/DIEQyS6RTAM

The Manila North Cemetery was formerly part of La Loma Cemetery but was separated as an exclusively Catholic burial ground. The cemetery formerly known as Cemeterio del Norte was laid out in 1904. Some of the people living here are interested in the cemetery. People who live in grave houses and there is no healthy electricity and water. They are complaining about their government because they don’t give any help.

Glistening skyscrapers and Spanish colonial architecture merge in the Philippine capital of Manila. Tucked away in a corner of this overcrowded coastal metropolis, the Manila North Cemetery has stood for more than 100 years. The cemetery’s stacked tombs house around a million of the dead.
And ten thousand of the living. Atop elaborate mausoleums, the people here have erected shanties and put down familial roots. The cemetery is home to some of Manila’s poorest residents – residents who inexorably display the resourcefulness needed to survive here. An entire way of life has flourished in death’s midst. And the people here maintain a delicate equilibrium, between life and death, rich and poor, hope and despair.

World’s Most Dangerous Roads | The Canadian Ice Roads (2015)

World’s Most Dangerous Roads - China - The Sichuan-Tibet Highway: https://youtu.be/NI3yEN2U0sU

The Canadian ice roads exist only for a few months in the winter when the ice is thick enough. The only time of the year when goods can be transported up to Northern Manitoba. We accompany the truckers Vlad and Hugh as well as the aboriginal Canadian Scott with his pick-up on their long journey to a village called God’s Lake. A risky trip in icy temperatures, sometimes even below - 60 degrees Celcius.
The men are in constant danger of getting stuck and need to forget everything they ever learnt about driving on a highway in order to arrive safely.

Meet Chinstrap, Macaroni, Adelie, Gentoo, King and... Queen. Spend a year with them in the icy waters or on the volcanic islands of the vast Southern Ocean.

Do not fall from the cliff when you leave in the morning and always be certain to catch the right wave on your return home before sunset. Watch out your “friends” who are always ready to push you off the iceberg. On rocky outcrops, always keep your distances with your neighbour, at least 2 feet. Meet your partner this evening, as it is your turn to take care of your fat feathered kids for the next 15 days. Most important of all: if you want to see your family again, avoid all welcoming committees of Fur Seals and departure festivities of Leopard Seals.

Watch 'The Rise of the Global Super-Rich and the Fall of Everyone Else' here: https://youtu.be/FlMjalPFSzU

There are now more billionaires in India than there are anywhere else in the world, excluding China and America. From glitzy Bollywood weddings and luxury yachts, to building gigantic towers and palaces and holidaying around the world, these new Maharajahs compete with each other to spend more. Although the majority of Indians live below the poverty line, these select billionaires live off of the riches of the country’s growing economy. Not only do we follow the glamorous side of this high life, but we also uncover how many are getting away with tax evasion and money laundering. We immerse ourselves in the lives of billionaires with very different profiles: from rich heirs to the self-made men. What difficulties do they face in getting to the top? During this 6-month long investigation, we infiltrate this tightly knit circle of India’s new billionaires.
