Former Australian ambassador to the US Joe Hockey says Democrats will be in “utter despair” at the Democratic National Convention in August.

“It’s going to be a hugely important convention [the Democratic National Convention],” Mr Hockey told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

“The mood will be quite obvious amongst the rank-and-file members of the Democrats.

“At this stage, I have to tell you, they are in utter despair.”

Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott says Joe Biden is “past his prime”.

Mr Abbott told Sky News host Peta Credlin that Joe Biden is “effectively our president” in Australia.

“I just think it’s incumbent on a political party that wants to be taken seriously, to give the public a viable choice.”

Secret Service rushed the stage and took former President Donald Trump away in a motorcade after shots were fired during a Pennsylvania rally on Saturday. The U.S. Secret Service confirmed two people are dead — the gunman and an audience member — and two spectators were critically injured. Trump said a bullet pierced the upper part of his right ear.

Sky News host Gabriella Power has mocked US president Joe Biden for lying in a recent interview.

President Biden falsely claimed that the inflation rate was 9% when he began his presidency.

The inflation rate in January 2021 was 1.4%.

“Let’s not let the truth get in the way of a good story,” Ms Power said.

“Either Joe Biden hasn’t figured out that the American people are smart, and they can tell when they are being lied to ... Or Joe Biden has lied about this so much he actually believed it to the truth."

Sky News host Danica De Giorgio has reacted to ‘The View’ co-hosts Ana Navarro and Joy Behar over their odd take on former US president Donald Trump’s assassination attempt at his rally in Pennsylvania.

“Talk about warped and weird,” Ms De Giorgio said.

“Is the View seriously trying to blame this all on white men? Of course they are.

“What else would we expect from those loons.”

Donald Trump Jr. has clashed with MSNBC's Jacob Soboroff during a tense exchange at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

Soboroff questioned Trump Jr about former President Trump's immigration policies and his reputation as a "divisive figure".

Trump Jr defended his father’s record, blaming the media for creating divisiveness, citing "lies about Russia collusion".

"They lied about Russia, Russia collusion, they said he was a traitor, they went after him in every which way possible," Trump Jr said.

Soboroff asked if Trump planned to reintroduce family separations in immigration policy if re-elected, denying it began under Obama.

"It’s MSDNC, so I expect nothing less from you clowns, even today," Trump Jr retorted.

"Even 48 hours later, you couldn’t wait, you couldn’t wait with your lies and with your nonsense, so just get out of here."

Sky News host Caroline Di Russo who attended the Republican National Convention described the “enthusiasm” in the audience.

Donald Trump has appeared at the 2024 Republican National Convention just two days after the assassination attempt on him.

“Everyone has just been energised all day.” Ms Di Russo told Sky News host Danica De Giorgio.

“There has been so much enthusiasm.

“The man arrives, and the crowd just almost didn’t know what to do with themselves.”

Vice-President Kamala Harris has addressed voters for the first time since she secured enough support to become the Democratic Party's nominee for US president.

She said Donald Trump "wants to take our country backward", speaking at a campaign rally in Milwaukee, in the critical swing state of Wisconsin.

Harris said she will spend the coming weeks uniting the Democratic Party “so we are ready to win in November”.
